THANK YOU to everyone for posting comments about this ride. It really saddens me to hear that a ride that no Orgs were on had the issues it had. The speed and the unsafe passes are a big concern to me and are being looked into closely. As the group grows we are learning from our mistakes so that we can continue to be the best group in southern AZ.

Great news: Ernie just called, he spoke with Kyle's wife. They have now checked out of UMC with stitches in his knee, no fractures. Thanks again to Ernie who is picking up the bike tomorrow from Bill, the nice pickup driver that hauled it back to town. Thanks to everybody today.

Adam, I am sorry you missed the guys this morning. The ride has been scheduled for 10am. We normally wait about 15mins after the start time for stragglers. I hope you can make Arivaca or another ride with us soon.

Was an alright ride both times to the top. My first real ride back with the group and the first ride I led. I hope Kyle heals up quick, and I hope the USMC doesn't throw a fit when he's not on a plane Monday. Thanks to everyone for staying together on the way out to Kitt (even though you didn't have to, I'd have let the fast guys run ahead if they wanted to). To those that bailed after Kyle's get-off: I hope you made it back alright with no altercations of your own, thanks for coming out.

Sorry to bail after the slip that Kyle had but it's my personnal rule that if someone goes down then it's the end of the day for me. The time never changed. The meetup time was always 10:00.

It was a great ride to the top for three of us. Unfortunately, Kyle went a little wide around mile marker 3 and lost an argument with the guard rail. He is going to be alright. One leg is in a splint so that is not a good sign. His jacket and helmet were pretty scuffed up, but better than Kyle. The bike didn't fare so well. It is two pieces. The front wheel snapped off at the tripple tree. A stranger in a pickup stopped and put it in the back. Hang in there, Kyle. Get well soon! Cheers, Mike ?

    •  It was a great ride to the top for three of us. Unfortunately, Kyle went a little wide around mile marker 3 and lost an argument with the guard rail. He is going to be alright. One leg is in a splint so that is not a good sign and he had a little road rash on one wrist and fingertips. His jacket and helmet were pretty scuffed up, but better than Kyle. The bike didn't fare so well. It is two pieces. The front wheel snapped off at the tripple tree. A stranger in a pickup paseed the wreck and turned around to lend help. By the time we rode back down the mountain, EMS was there and the bike was in the back of the pickup. Hang in there, Kyle. Get well soon! Cheers, Mike
    •  It was quite fast paste on the flat land, going up from the base around 2nd turn unfortunaly had a guy go down and had to be taken to UMC, as for his bike.... if he rides again he'll be on a new one I would image. I hope he doesn't have anymore damage to himself than what was shown at the accident and wish him a speedy recovery. All and all it was a good ride. Bit fast for my paste, but thats why there are seperate groups.

I love kitt peak! I didnt enjoy this run because we had poor leadership, group was running 85 all the way, passing double yellows, passing in turning lanes and pretty much playing chicken with uncoming traffic! Safety of the group was no where to be found, a few of us hung in back and just cruised after i relized everyone just wanted to show off their bikes, and i predicted someone would go down and it happend, a new rider to the group went down from loose gravel, it was a bad experience and nothing like our usual group rides with Rob leading! Im sure theres more but that should suffice!

Anytime I'm on an unfamiliar road, I slow way down and am not about to push hard. The biggest problem is that gravel-on-tar road, and the sand. Also, there are not a lot of guard rails in most places, so it's definitely a hazardous road. But the views are amazing, well worth the trip. Also would be cool to do the guided tour of the scopes.
    •  Yes, The Kitt peak ride, Well we hope Kyle is going to be up and ok , quicker than the bike. Hang in there Kyle. The section near the top was dicey with all the sand on the road but slow going. Great day . But that Kitt Peak curse.....

I do think that the pace in getting there was a bit fast 20 over is not a good pace for a meetup ride. I don't mind short blasts but not 40 miles of hauling ass. That kind of stuff needs to happen elsewhere. I chose to ride in the rear for this ride as I didn't know many of the riders that came out for this ride. The only person behind me was Don. I did observe several unsafe passes but I as a rule will not pass unless it's a passing area. I did not anticipate a slip for this ride as it was briefed to be carefull on the mountain but it is what it is. I think things were handled ok after the incident. Most people do not have cell coverage on the mountain I did not and either did many others. I will chose which rides I participate in a bit more carefully in the future though. I hope everyone that continued up the mt had a good time. I went home uneventfully. I was looking forward to a good ride up Kitt Peak. I guess I'll try again another time.
